Cold compresses, sterile wound cleaning with saline solution, proper sleeping posture, and a scientifically sound diet help the nose shape stabilize quickly and look natural.

After a successful surgery, the remaining perfect appearance of patient 50% depends on post-operative care at home. Below is a detailed guide from the team of doctors led by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Dinh.

1. The correct procedure for applying cold and warm compresses.

  • Within the first 48 hours: Apply cold compresses continuously around the eyes and cheekbones (absolutely do not apply directly to the bridge of the nose). The cold temperature helps constrict blood vessels, reduce swelling and edema, and minimize bruising.
  • From day 3 onwards: Switch to gentle warm compresses to improve blood circulation and help the bruise dissolve faster.

2. Clean the wound aseptically every day.

Using a sterile cotton swab moistened with physiological saline solution (0.91% NaCl), gently clean the suture edges at the nasal septum and nostrils, then apply a thin layer of Betadine/Tetracycline antibiotic ointment as directed. Keep the nasal splint area dry and avoid direct contact with tap water until the splint is removed.

3. Sleeping posture and exercise regimen

  • Lie on your back with your head straight and use a slightly elevated pillow for the first 7 days to help drain the accumulated fluid. Avoid lying on your side or stomach, as this can put pressure on and dislodge the nasal bridge.
  • Avoid wearing heavy-framed glasses, engaging in high-intensity sports, or practicing gym/yoga exercises during the first four weeks.

4. Scientific nutrition

Supplement your diet with foods rich in vitamin C (oranges, grapefruits, guavas), soy protein, lean pork, and drink at least 2 liters of water daily. Avoid foods that can easily cause keloid scarring or irritation, such as water spinach, beef, seafood, sticky rice, and stimulants (alcohol, tobacco) for at least 30 days.
